Her Royal Highness's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Community Volunteers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like award-winning actors.
A Theme of Compassion and Love
The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the concert.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.
Festive Decor and Performances
